BOO-tiful necklaceString something spooky

I'll use any holiday as an excuse to dress up in themed colors or make a
themed necklace — Halloween is no different! I got these orange
teardrop beads from a friend and the design quickly came together, all
in a row like pumpkins in a pumpkin patch. I finished with a patterned
black and white aluminum chain for a spooky, skeletal feel — but it's
not overwhelming. I plan to wear this boo-tiful necklace well past All
Hallow's Eve.
Supplies
45–55 12–16 mm teardrop beads 23–28 5 mm bicone crystals 29–34 4 mm bicone crystals 6–8-in. (15–20 cm) 12 mm link chain flexible beading wire, .014 or .015 22-gauge wire lobster claw clasp chainnose and roundnose pliers diagonal wire cutters crimping pliers (optional)
|
Step 1
Cut a piece of beading wire (Basics). String a 5 mm bicone and a teardrop bead. Repeat until the strand is the desired length, ending with a bicone. Cut a second piece of beading wire. String a 4 mm bicone and a teardrop bead. Repeat until the strand is 2–3 in. (5–7.6 cm) longer than the first strand, ending with a bicone.
|
Step 2
Cut a 3–4-in. (7.6–10 cm) piece of 12 mm link chain. On one end of each strand, string a crimp bead, a 4 or 5 mm bicone, and an end link of chain. Go back through the last few beads strung and tighten the wires. Crimp the crimp beads (Basics) and trim the excess wire. Repeat on the other end with a second piece of chain.
|
Step 3
On one end, use pliers to open an end-link of chain (Basics). Attach a lobster claw clasp and close the chain link.
|
Step 4
Cut a 3-in. (7.6 cm) piece of 22-gauge artistic wire. String a teardrop bead and make a set of wraps above it (Basics). Make the first half of a wrapped loop (Basics) perpendicular to the teardrop. On the remaining end link of chain, string the teardrop unit and complete the wraps.
