Pearl necklaces don’t get much easier than this. Start with a strand of shell pearls; they have a uniform shape and a budget-friendly price. Then choose crystals — I like 3 mm bicones because they resemble knots, but 4 mm crystals will add more color and sparkle. Then just string and wear!

Supplies

necklace 16½ in. (41.9 cm)
16-in. (41 cm) strand 16 mm round shell pearls
 20–25 3–4 mm crystals
 4 3 mm spacers
flexible beading wire, .018 or .019
 2 crimp beads
 2 Wire Guardians (optional)
 toggle clasp
 chainnose or crimping pliers
 diagonal wire cutters

stepone

1. Cut a piece of beading wire (Basics). String a pearl and a crystal. Repeat until the strand is within 1 in. (2.5 cm) of the finished length, ending with a pearl.

2. On each end, attach half of a toggle clasp (Basics).

Tips

  • If you use a multicolored strand of pearls, try 3 mm crystals in different colors. I used vintage rose, light amethyst, and light peach bicones.
  • When choosing a toggle clasp, opt for one large enough to bear the weight of the 16 mm pearls.

perfect to use with smaller 8mm pearls that I had, and I used up my bicones of 3mm, slight variation, but it was so nice on my 12 year old's neck for a wedding, thanks for the idea!
