Keep your beads and neckline from fighting

Bonus Online Notebook #15
If you have a particularly spectacular piece of jewelry, you probably build your look around it. But more often, the jewelry is chosen to work with your outfit, not the other way around.

It’s a good idea to tone down the jewels when your want a certain piece of clothing to be the focus of your look. Choose simpler pieces that add a bit of coordinating (or complementary) color, or a flash of metallic.

Alternately, when your jewels are to take center stage, your clothes should be something close to a blank canvas. This gives you the option of showcasing a statement necklace, bracelet, or earrings, or doing some creative layering without creating a visual circus.

Making sure your jewelry and clothes work in harmony is the key to a great overall look. Below are some guidelines to keep your beads and your neckline from fighting.
